Faraj Suleiman is a Palestinian composer and pianist born in 1984 in al-Ramah, in the Galilee. Trained in classical music, he later discovered jazz in early adulthood, an encounter that broadened his language toward improvisation and contemporary forms. His music is shaped by Arabic and Eastern melodies and rhythms, often using modal structures, alongside a strong influence from jazz traditions.
Rooted in classical training, he seeks forms of expression that can speak to both “Eastern” and “Western” audiences, building a language that crosses cultural and aesthetic boundaries.
His appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2018 marked a turning point, opening his music to European stages. He has since composed for solo piano, quartet and quintet formats, as well as for choir, symphonic orchestra, theatre, and film, shaping a musical world that blends harmonic sophistication, Eastern lyricism, and rhythmic energy.
His discography includes Login, Three Steps, Mud, Opening of the Palestinian Museum, Al-Bashiq, Love in the Cloud, Once Upon a City, Love Without a Story, Toy Box, Second Verse, the live recording of the London Jazz Festival 2019, Better than Berlin, Faheem, Upright Biano, As Much As It Takes, and Maryam.
He has also composed for theatre and film, including the award-winning 200 Meters by Ameen Nayfeh and Alam by Firas Khoury.
