Born in 1942, Angola’ Bonga is an icon of African music and Lusophone world. Originally a professional athlete, Bonga attracted attention with his husky voice and pro-independence songs in the early ‘70s while forced into exile between Rotterdam, Paris and Lisbon. His extraordinarily gravelly voice, his dance-friendly melancholy and his unique blend of Angolan, Portuguese and Brazilian influences have been fascinating one generation after another for about fifty years. Author of more than 170 songs, Bonga will release his 32nd album in 2021.
