When Marc-Antoine Moreau, Amadou & Mariam's manager, stays in Bamakao, he spends a lot of time listening to the radio. Recently, he was attracted by techno remixes of Malian music. When he asked to meet the author of these electronic interpretations, one brought him to the Sokonigo central station : there, in a tape booth, he was presented to Moriké Keita. During the day, for 5.000 CFA francs, Mo Dj remixes cds that he copies for his clients, and in the evening, he mixes techno at the Batama club. His style is " Djembeni ", small djembe, the name given to the groove box he plays live with cds that he or his friend djs collect. Beside his Boss DR770 DK groove box, DJ Mo workds with a Denon DND9000 double record deck, a little electronic jewel. With this material, he mixes and remixes his compatriotes, bringing a very African techno touch.
After having taken care of recent dj sets for Amadou & Mariam, he is about to set the Transmusicales Festival of Renne ablaze. Dj Mo will participate with Neneh Cherry, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Amadou & Mariam, and probably Laurent Garnier and Manu Chao to the Paris-Bamako / Bamako-Paris event on May 7th in the Malian capital, and then in Paris in September.
